Howdy Merlin Marauder Members!!

I would appreciate your vote for Match Director of the Merlin Marauders club!

The ballots are out; I just received mine in the mail this afternoon. So, if you are a member of the Merlin Marauders you should have received, or will soon receive, a ballot in the mail that looks something like this.

Wonderful Weekend

I shot in Yreka on Saturday. I came in 3^rdplace overall!! I shot every stage in the low 20’s and only had 2 misses for the match.

I shot in Roseburg on Sunday. While I didn’t shoot as fast as I did on Saturday I did shoot clean… well, no misses anyways (ain’t really possible for a Black Powder shooter like me to shoot “clean”). I ended up coming in 5^th place overall at the Roseburg match.

One of the highlights of my weekend was going to my little sidekick Padawan’s party on Sunday!! What a great time, seein’ him and all of his friends. He turned 7 this weekend!!

All in all, it was a wonderful weekend spent with good people… … … … now I’m just waitin’ for the next one!!

This is one of my favorite news clips from this year’s shooting season. It’s from June of 2011, “Gunfight in the Badlands” in Bend, Oregon. It was my first time at this match, and my first time on their range. The Match Director, Whispering Wade, asked if I would do and interview for the local news station. Their reporter Homa Quazilbash came out to do the piece. Before she left I had her shootin’ CAS!! It was a blast, for me, Homa and the whole posse.

Frontiersman

Ahh, yes! Frontiersman; the SASS category where I got my start. When I first started CAS I knew, without a doubt, what revolvers I wanted to use. The ’51 Navy!! A pair of ‘em were good enough for my ol’ pard Wild Bill Hickok and they are the Jed I’s choice as well.

The SASS rules for shootin’ Frontiersmen category are as follows: Frontiersman requires black powder or black powder substitutes used in all of the weapons. Revolvers must be percussion pistols fired duelist (one handed). Any SASS legal pistol caliber rifle, and either a SXS shotgun or a lever action shotgun (no pumps) are required.

At the time I began Cowboy Shootin’ there weren’t no real reliable / quality conversion ’51 Navy revolvers on the market and the cap and ball variety have always been less expensive anyways. So that’s what I got… and the rest is history… or at least this version of history.

Every year I gather as many of my pards as I can to get out their cap and ball guns, blow off the dust and send some rounds down range with me at the September Jefferson State Regulators match in Ashland, Oregon Territory. Typically on 3 or 4 folks will have the balls to show up and shoot in the Frontiersman category with me.

Tomorrow, being the 3rd Saturday of the month, is the day for that special match!! I’m all excited, got my gear put and I’m ready to load up enough cylinders to get me thru the day’s 5 stages.

No-Smoking in the Badlands

Well, as much as I’d like to make the trip up to Bend Oregon and shoot with the Pine Mountain Posse at their annual “Smoke in the Badlands” match it just ain’t in the cards this year. Simple fact of the matter is, I can’t afford it. With the price of fuel what it is and the lack of work for a Hired Gun in today’s economy it just ain’t gonna happen.
That Smoke in the Badlands match will stay on my calendar for another year…
Tomorrow I’ll take up with the Table Rock Rangers outta White City Oregon and shoot me up some Steel Baddies!!

I decided to start this “blog” as a way to keep in touch with y’all that was both more personal and more secure than social networking sites like facebook and google plus.
